#JustOneSwitch

With three boys, our home isn’t as sustainable as I’d like but #JustOneSwitch can make a big difference.

Ethical online store Counter Culture have just launched a fantastic new initiative encouraging us all to make #JustOneSwitch and I’m thrilled to be taking part.

Join the Ethical and Sustainable Beauty Movement

Globally the beauty industry is said to generate 120 billion units of packaging every year, much of it non-recyclable.  This ends up in landfill and in our oceans.  Whilst more of us are now taking action, it simply isn’t enough and the amount of plastic entering our oceans is forecast to nearly triple by 2040.

But the issue of sustainable beauty is broader than packaging alone. It’s about the quality of the ingredients, how ethically and responsibly they are sourced and the impact this has on our natural resources, whether they are formulated to be non-toxic, cruelty-free and so much more.

Counter Culture

Counter Culture report that :

88% of consumers want brands to help them live their lives more ethically and sustainably.

50% of consumers want to buy beauty and wellbeing products that are good for the environment.

41% of consumer feel guilty about the environmental impact of their beauty products.

Sustainable Swaps

We’re a work in progress but some of the sustainable swaps we’ve already implemented at home include:

  • Bamboo cotton buds
  • Beeswax wraps
  • Bamboo Cleansing Pads

My #JustOneSwitch

Natural Deodorant

Posy deo

I’ve been wanting to switch to natural deodorant for a while. Unfortunately, my previous experience of natural deodorants wasn’t overly successful so I’ve been hesitant to try again. Luckily, Counter Culture has given me the opportunity to make #JustOneSwitch.

I selected POSY Grapefruit & Lemon Deodorant, which I love. Counter Culture offer a range of natural deodorants but I’m keen to continue using stick deodorants for now. Posy Grapefruit and Lemon Deodorant has a fresh and uplifting fragrance, it is enjoyable to apply and performed well during a yoga class. It’s a keeper!

Home Fragrance

Natural Fragrance

With three boys and a dog home fragrance is important! I selected POSY Grapefruit & Lemon Essential Oil which I love. This multi purpose essential oil blend is a delight and another #JustOneSwitch keeper!

SPF

SOS SPF

I must confess, I struggle with SPF and tend to stick with what works. I’ve thrown away far too many SPF products for stinging my eyes and irritating my skin. Not so with SOS Serum Skincare– SPF 50 Sun Cream. It offers 5 star broad spectrum protection, is mineral based and contains anti-ingredients. It’s gentle, comforting and I love it. Another keeper!

Skincare Tools

Skin Tool

Ok, so this wasn’t an essential swap but something I’d wanted to try for a while. My current, rather aged, skincare tool has a plastic spiky head, hasn’t aged well and isn’t sustainable. The White Gua Shaa Mushroom from Pure Savvy is made entirely from beautiful white jade, which is said to alleviate puffiness and increase the absorption of skincare products.

It instantly cools and brightens my skin and is a definite keeper. I also loved the thoughtful handwritten note which arrived with it.

NATURAL DEO

I love all these products and am proud to say I have made four sustainable switches thanks to Counter Culture’s #JustOneSwitch campaign.
